Greetings dear blog readers and welcome to my first posting of 2010, which thanks to the wonders of the worldwide interwebby is coming to you live from Namibia in south-west Africa! With the harsh realities of British winter time hitting Welsh golf, I decided to take the opportunity to travel to Namibia in south west Africa. Here in the capital city of Windhoek I have just formed a partnership company, called 'GolfandSafari'.
They don't worry about sheep damaging the fairways in Africa...
The aim of 'GolfandSafari' is to offer golfers from all over the world a unique experience in new ways of life, culture and endless activities in a warm country, and not only warm due to its magnificent climate. The Namibian people and its landscapes are one of the last untouched and unspoilt places on earth!
The main theme running through any individually tailored holiday plan will be the golf and safari. The Big 5 all live here. In addition to the wonderful safari drives and picturesque golf courses other outdoor activities such as fishing, surfing, wind surfing, boat trips, white water rafting, canoeing, skubadiving, gamedrives, hunting, quadbiking in the dunes, kitebuggying, flysafaris over the desert, balloontrips over Skeleton coast, Skydiving, Caveing, visiting gold mines or simply relaxing at the beach are just a few of the wonderful things to keep you occupied.
Relaxing at on of the many award winning lodges and tented villiages is a must for anyone's stay here, and having a barbeque on the beach at Swakopmund with the fish you've caught that day would be an ideal day to watch the sun go down!
GolfandSafari is a new partnership venture I have formed with Titus Schmidt, a friend of mine for more than 20 years since I first met him drinking Guinness in an Irish Bar in Germany. Some of you may have met Titus last May when he visited us at Fairwood in that one week of the year last May when it hardly rained! This larger than life character's main skill is as a highly qualified chef having been trained in Berlin in Germanys No.1 chefs training school.
Now a permanent resident in Namibia for the last 10 years, Titus currently runs the Capricorn Guesthouse in Okahandja. It is set in beautiful surroundings in the middle of the bush, where one can relax and enjoy nature as it still was thousands of years ago. In the last few days I've been lucky to see some of Titus' neighbours such as a Chamelion and a Baboon on the steps of the Guesthouse- unbelieveable experiences, only to be seen here in Namibia.
Over the next few weeks and months we will be busy developing a website www.golfandsafari.co.uk which will include some beautiful images of the things I've seen over the last 8 days here.
In the meantime, I'll hopefully be back safe and sound in the UK on Thursday 27th Jan, and if any of you have any questions as to how you can get more info on this new project for your next big holiday break, just let me know. In addition to my new email address which is firstname.lastname@example.org I will also be contactable on ' email@example.com
